A History Of Helping

Mahnah Club of the East Valley, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit women's service organization.

We have been providing invaluable contributions to the community since being founded in 1954. The Club name is derived from the Hopi word "Mahnah" meaning "leading women of the tribe." Our members are committed to actively serving the east valley and surrounding communities. We also volunteer our time and efforts for many non-profit organizations on an average of over 4,000 hours annually.

Mahnah Club has raised over $1,500,000 over the past 10 years. We continue to support local charities not only with funding but also with outreach events.

Our membership grows each year with caring and hardworking women of the community. We have fun and celebrate the many wonderful friendships we have made throughout the years.

The Mahnah Club has a long history of supporting major causes in the Southeast Valley and currently raises funds for the Child Crisis Center- East Valley, a valley-wide emergency shelter and safe haven, adoption and foster care services, and a family resource center, and the Save the Family Foundation, a Mesa-based group that provides shelter and a path to independence for homeless families, including financial support of both new and established local charities. We also provide scholarships for college or post secondary studies (advanced studies).

In 1957, we helped establish a school for the developmentally disabled that is now the Marc Center. Ten years later, members assisted in establishing the Tri-City Behavioral Health Center, and in 1971, Prehab of Arizona, now called A New Leaf, which provides services in counseling, alcoholism and drug abuse prevention. Members also volunteered during the first years of the Maricopa County Well-Baby Clinic, and in 1981 founded the Child Crisis Center - East Valley, Inc., of which we received the KPNX 12 Who Care Hon Kachina Award, given by the St. Luke's Men for Outstanding Volunteer Efforts.

Mahnah Club is known for it's many fund raising efforts, which include past events such as the White Elephant Sale (1956-85), the Food Extravaganza (1983-87), the Used Book Sale (1988-91), the Heart of Fashion Show (1999-2011), The "Classics for Charity" Car & Bike Show, and the Classic Car Raffle (2000-2010). Our ongoing event is our Annual Gala (1992- present).

In 2009 we introduced our "Leading Women of the Community Award" where each year we honor an east valley woman for her outstanding volunteer contributions in the areas of children, families, education and/or the arts.

Mahnah members are proud of their history and their record of service. More importantly, they have pledged themselves to continue to be "leading women" in their service to the community.
